I walked into Jim’s office and slammed down a huge box on his desk. He whipped his head up and gave me a bewildered look.

 

“What’s this?” he asked.

 

Without replying, I gently cut the tape holding the box together and opened it up to expose hundreds of letters addressed to “Jim Samson”. Jim picked up the one nearest him and opened it to reveal the handwritten note inside.

 

He intently read it, put it down, and then picked up another letter and began reading again. Then the next letter. And another.

 

Each letter now sprawled out on his desk had a similar message with two main points:

This was my latest of recent attempts to get Jim to consider what I would describe as a live coaching program. It was a letter I had personally written to Jim some time ago. I actually still have that letter on my desk for nostalgic purposes.

• At age 32, he got bored with that and decided to become financially free by starting his own business. He quit the airline, and now his friends and family REALLY thought he was nuts.

   

  His business went on to become a multi-million dollar success, and in 2006 he retired as he had originally wanted to.

   

• At age 36 and retired, he stared at the swimming pool and got bored after a week and decided to become a bestselling novelist. His novel, The Pandora Prescription, became a bestseller in 2007, and got translated into Chinese, Italian, and Turkish.

   

• At age 37, he missed flying. So he bought a small plane and set a world airspeed record for that weight category (as one does). Mid-air, he also set a world record for sales from a promotion he wrote.

   

• At age 39, he produced a TV show.

 

Jim now lives in a mansion in Florida with his wife, kids, and dogs. Not long ago he bought his wife a Porsche for cash as an anniversary gift.
